Building a spot at Hobby Lobby! FB

I went to Hobby Lobby with no real plan—just wandering the aisles looking for random materials that could become a DIY fingerboard spot. Somehow, this little experiment turned into one of my favorite fingerboard obstacles I’ve ever built or skated! I searched through the store for anything that could work in a miniature skatepark setup and ended up finding a wooden tray, extra wood, popsicle sticks, moss, paint, glue and a bunch of other craft supplies. The goal was to take ordinary Hobby Lobby finds and transform them into a completely custom fingerboard street spot.

Before heading home to start the build, I had some time to kill before a meeting, so I stopped at a park and tested the tray exactly as it came from the store. I caught a few fingerboard clips on the raw setup, then brought everything home to paint, customize and completely rebuild it. The final spot turned out even better than I expected. It can be skated in several different directions and configurations, with ledges, banks, gaps and multiple lines packed into one compact fingerboard obstacle. The versatility makes it feel less like a single obstacle and more like a complete mini fingerboard skatepark. This was one of those DIY projects where experimenting, wandering around and finding unexpected materials led to something way better than the original idea.
