TRICHOME COLLECTIVE

Brand System / Creative Direction / Production Execution

Creative Direction by Tristan Minton

Trichome Collective was built as a full-spectrum brand system — not just a visual identity, but a production-ready framework designed to exist in the real world. Every logo, mark, and visual element was hand-drawn and developed from the ground up, then carried through packaging, structure, and final execution under my direction. This wasn’t a surface-level design exercise or something passed off between teams — it was a top-down creative build with oversight across every phase, from initial concept through to what ultimately hits the shelf.

The intention behind the project was clear from the start: create a brand that feels premium, performs in a competitive retail environment, and scales cleanly without losing its identity.

Creative Direction & Strategy

This project didn’t begin with aesthetics — it began with structure. Every creative decision was guided by how the brand would ultimately live and perform. That meant considering consumer behavior at the shelf, understanding the visual noise of competing products, and aligning early with material limitations, print methods, and cost realities.

Design, in this case, wasn’t about decoration. It was about building something that could hold up under real-world conditions — visually, physically, and operationally.

Visual Identity

The identity system was built to balance clarity with impact. The logos and marks were developed by hand to create something distinct and ownable, while the supporting typography, color systems, and layout structures were designed to remain controlled and consistent across every application.

The result is a visual language that translates seamlessly between packaging, digital platforms, and physical retail environments, maintaining strong recognition without feeling repetitive or overdesigned.

Packaging System

Packaging was approached as both a creative discipline and an engineering problem. Every decision — from structure to print method to finishes — was made with manufacturing in mind. This included planning for CMYK and white ink usage, considering specialty finishes like gloss, matte, or foil, and ensuring durability in real retail conditions.

Most brands treat packaging as a final step. Here, it was integrated from the beginning, allowing the design to move directly into production without friction or compromise.

Production Integration

A defining part of this project was aligning design with production early in the process. Prepress considerations, vendor coordination, and finish feasibility were all accounted for before anything was finalized. This approach removes guesswork, eliminates unnecessary revisions, and protects the integrity of the design through the entire production cycle.

It’s the difference between something that looks good in a mockup and something that actually delivers at scale.

Retail Experience

Trichome Collective was built to live in-store, where packaging plays a direct role in perceived value and customer decision-making. The system supports strong shelf presence, cohesive product families, and consistent visual storytelling across both physical and digital environments.

At that level, packaging becomes more than just a container — it becomes the primary touchpoint between the brand and the customer.

Outcome - Trichome Collective demonstrates what happens when strategy, creative direction, and production thinking are developed as a single system. The result is a brand that doesn’t just present well, but performs — built for real-world execution, scalability, and long-term growth.
