Hidden Fingerboard Spots in New York City | Exploring Manhattan to Staten Island on Christmas New York City is one of the most legendary cities in the world for street culture. Skateboarding, graffiti, hip-hop, and street art all exploded here and shaped the culture we know today. So I had one mission when I landed in NYC… Find the most exclusive hidden fingerboard spots in the city. This trip started in Manhattan, right in the middle of the chaos of New York during Christmas. Airports were almost empty from people traveling early, but once we landed the streets were absolutely packed with energy. Holiday crowds, city lights, snow in the air, and endless architecture — the perfect environment to hunt for new fingerboard terrain. Searching Manhattan for Street Spots Manhattan is basically a giant skate park if you know how to look at it. Granite ledges, marble benches, metal rails, stair sets, street planters, and architectural details that most people walk past every day. But fingerboarders see things differently. Every surface becomes a potential spot. We spent hours walking the city looking for hidden ledges, DIY street spots, and textures perfect for fingerboarding. From sidewalks to building details, NYC is filled with micro terrain just waiting to be skated. Riding the Legendary NYC Subway To reach the next destination we jumped on the iconic New York City subway system. The NYC subway isn’t just transportation — it’s part of street culture history. In the 1970s and 80s, subway trains became the canvas for some of the most legendary graffiti artists in the world. Writers like Dondi, Lee Quiñones, Seen, Lady Pink, and Futura 2000 turned moving subway trains into rolling masterpieces. Entire train cars were painted from end to end, creating what people called “whole cars” and “top-to-bottom burners.” Graffiti culture spread worldwide because of those trains. Even today, riding the subway through New York still feels connected to that era of creativity and rebellion. And of course… we were scouting fingerboard spots inside subway stations too. Crossing the Harbor to Staten Island From Manhattan we traveled out toward Staten Island, one of NYC’s most underrated boroughs. This is where things got interesting. Away from the dense streets of Manhattan we started finding one-of-a-kind fingerboard spots that you would never see anywhere else. Concrete edges - Stone ledges - Old metal rails - Industrial textures Spots that feel like they were built specifically for fingerboarding. This part of the trip turned into a full urban exploration mission. Traveling on Christmas Day One of the craziest parts of this trip was traveling on Christmas Day. The airports were surprisingly quiet, almost empty compared to normal travel days. But once we reached New York, the city felt alive. Holiday crowds filled the streets, tourists everywhere, lights glowing across the skyline. Even the airport kiosks became fingerboard spots while people were walking past wondering what was going on. When you carry a fingerboard everywhere, the entire world becomes a skate spot. Finding Hidden Spots Everywhere This trip proved something important. You don’t need a skatepark to have fun fingerboarding. You just need creativity and a city full of possibilities. New York delivered endless inspiration: • Hidden marble ledges • Street textures perfect for tricks • Urban architecture turned into obstacles • Rooftop views above the city • Subway stations with unexpected terrain Every block had potential. Exploring Cities Differently Most people visit New York for landmarks.
