Looney Fingerboards – Dragon Lizard Illustration & Custom Deck Series

This project began as a personal illustration inspired by Looney’s real-life dragon lizard, translating his pet into a fully realized character and bringing it to life as a stand-alone piece of art. The goal was to create something more than a logo—an expressive, aggressive creature that could live on its own while also anchoring an entire fingerboard system.

The illustration was developed to work across multiple applications: as a raw character graphic, graffiti-style typography, sticker designs, and full fingerboard layouts. From there, the artwork was engineered specifically for production, with custom engraving files created for both the top and bottom of the decks, allowing the illustration to be physically carved into the wood rather than simply printed.

These boards were produced in Germany, resulting in fully custom, engraved fingerboards that feel more like collectible art objects than traditional products. Every detail—from line weight and contrast to engraving depth and placement—was carefully considered so the artwork translates cleanly into the material itself.

The final result is a cohesive series that blurs the line between illustration, product design, and craftsmanship—true one-of-one works of art, built for fingerboard culture but elevated through precision manufacturing and intentional design.~ Tristan Minton @ Pager.One
